Bromate monitoring in disinfected water
Istran has introduced a new application for on-line bromate measurement in disinfected water. Concentrations down to few ppb of bromate can be detected within 15 min. Some water sources contain bromides and improper water treatment technology may give rise to highly dangerous bromate. Its concentration must not exceed 10 ug/l. Such low bromate concentrations can only be measured by sophisticated chromatographic and isotachophoretic techniques, which are not suited for on-line and unattended monitoring of bromates.

Istran has introduced a new application for on-line bromate measurement in disinfected water by making use of the user-friendly and low cost process analyzer EcaMon TE10. The method has recently be tested in a long-term test on water samples with and without bromate contents. Virtually no interference from disinfection reagents and their byproducts was observed and the system provided reliable values for bromate concentrations below as well as above the 10 ppb threshold value. The results corresponded well with those obtained by HPLC.
